Odell Beckham Jr. tweeted Tuesday that he is “speechless” after examination an ESPN anticipation football auction blueprint that’s being criticized for imitative a worker auction — and Beckham is the player on the block.
Former Giants defensive lineman Dominique Hamilton tweeted the ESPN clip at Beckham saying:
“Ummm @OBJ_3 what’s ingest with this extremist sketch.”
The auctioneer in the skit binds up a photo of Beckham, who was not physically partial of the bit, as he auctions him to the top bidder.
Beckham’s response seemed to prove he is equally as ashamed as many are to see a white man auction a black man’s services on a stage, in front of a primarily white crowd, no less.
There were white players, like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, auctioned off, as well.
ESPN has given apologized.
“Auction drafts are a common partial of anticipation football, and ESPN’s segments replicated an auction breeze with a different line-up of top veteran football players. Without that context, we know the optics could be portrayed as offensive, and we apologize,” the network pronounced in a matter to USA TODAY Sports.
