A Michigan man who rented a gangling bedroom from a Minnesota family by Airbnb certified to attempting to sexually attack the family’s 7-year-old girl.
Derrick Aaron Kinchen, 28, pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of second-degree rapist passionate control of a victim under the age of 13, according to a press release from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
Police were dispatched to a home in Minnetonka after midnight on Sept. 24, after the father reported Kinchen had tried to attack his daughter.
The father told police Kinchen has rented a gangling bedroom in the home by Airbnb, KTSP reports.
The couple put their daughter to bed when they listened Kinchen return from a wedding.
It was about 15 mins after when the father says he saw his daughter’s bedroom doorway was open and Kinchen was fibbing exposed next to her, the opening reports. The father told police his daughter’s nightgown had been pulled up.
The homeowner started yelling and Kinchen fled wearing only his fit jacket. He was after found hiding in a partially-covered fishing vessel at a neighbor’s home. He was quickly hospitalized after being bitten by a police K-9.
The girl was examined at a circuitously hospital and told investigators she woke up when Kinchen came into her bedroom and he whispered something to her. She pronounced he pulled her underwear down but she pulled it back up, KARE reports.
At Monday’s conference Kinchen claimed he did not remember the events of that night, and therefore done a Norgaard plea, which means he concluded there is sufficient justification for a jury to crook him, prosecutors say.
Kinchen told the justice that “all he remembers is that he drank a lot that night, went to the lavatory and then suspicion he was going back to his room. He then remembered people yelling at him and he ran. He after fell defunct in a neighbor’s vessel until a police dog bit him and he was arrested,” according to the press release.
Kinchen’s sentencing is scheduled for May 18, where he is likely to get 5 years trial and 18 months in jail if he violates trial conditions, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says.
